We had fun in Vegas. The weather was warm and sunny for the most part. We took the kids to the park on Christmas Eve and it was so warm and nice that it didn't feel like Christmas Eve at all! Some Monk Family traditions that we carried on were:
Christmas Eve
-our mom's famous cheese fondue dinner (plus chicken fondue)
-driving around looking at Christmas lights
-acting out the nativity (with an extra squirmy baby Jesus)
-playing games
Christmas Day
-open presents
-delicious ham dinner
Other Stuff
-decorating sugar cookies
-eating tons of snacks and treats
-leaving kids at home with babysitter to watch Sherlock Holmes 2 in the movie theater
-visiting the exhibit in the Conservatory at the Bellagio on the strip
The conservatory. If you've never been, the casino creates a huge exhibit for each season and major holiday, and it's made mostly of organic materials like flowers and plants. It's pretty cool.
Riding the sky-tram thing from the Bellagio to another Casino and back. The kids loved it.
Opening new pajamas and other select gifts on Christmas Eve. I wish I had a picture of the guys' gifts. My parents bought all of the guys air rifles. You should have seen the excited looks and smiles on their faces. When the got them all assembled, Jon couldn't wait and shot an experimental run outside into the sky. But those pictures are all on my cell phone, which ... you know.
Awww, the fondue. One of my favorite parts of Christmas Eve. A crisp, stale piece of french bread, drenched in gooey, creamy white cheese that fills your mouth with hot, rich flavor and slides right down your throat. And the smells of Guiere and Swiss cheese, mixed with garlic and ginger ale, mmmmmmm!!!! My mouth just filled with saliva just thinking about it.
And, of course, it wouldn't be a Monk Family Christmas without ... the flu. Yes, the infamous flu. From both ends. Yep. Just about everyone took a turn with the 24-hr bug. I think on Christmas Eve Lori was recovering from her bout. Merry Christmas!
